With the changing of seasons, many people turn to their favorite horror films or autumn-centered television series. However, many discard other forms of media in favor of these Halloween classics, video games being unfortunately one of them. With video games being so immersive, they are sure to engage gamers and non-gamers alike for the sinister season.

Mortis Ghost created an official web page for OFF at an unknown date (possibly around the same time the OFF translations were created). The website is entirely in French and has not yet been translated. The website itself contained info about the game. This also includes different images created by Mortis Ghost, OFF Downloads (in multiple languages), sketches, wallpapers, sheet music, a solution page (also in French) and a peculiar folder named "DossierSG", which is a lengthy review created by someone named "ShadowGate". It is twelve pages long and has yet to be translated. As of 2021, all downloadable content from that site can be found under the games section of the Unproductive Fun Time site.

I spoke to the lead designed a few weeks ago at GAMEX 2013, and he seemed like a really cool guy. Stairs is influenced by classic survival horror games such as Silent Hill and the original Resident Evil titles. If you have some time to spare, you should check it out.

Brought to you by the highly acclaimed director Shinji Mikami, The Evil Within is also one of his best horror games in the genre. The overall story puts you in the shoes of Sebastian Castellanos, a detective who was entrusted with investigating an abnormal incident only to get pulled into a distorted world full of nightmarish places and terrifying creatures. Sebastian will have to experience a journey to hell before solving the mystery that sucked him into the mess.

This was a fantastic short indie horror game. Lots of really cool elements and jumping through various times to tie the story together. Solid 8/10. Permission granted to use my video for social media purposes.

August Night is a first person horror game set in a three dimensional recreation of a small apartment building. It is a free donation-based jump scare game with creepy aesthetics and a sinister overtone. It is more of a horror experience than a fully realized game.

Perhaps the biggest flaw of this indie horror game is the fact it is so short. It does such a good job of building tension but said tension is quickly spent and discarded as the game ends. This game was severely limited by its low budget when it comes to game length, as most people will complete it within around six minutes.

The Shopping List is a full-length mystery-psychological horror game. This free-to-play game takes players on a chilling adventure in a weird town. Here, you play as a newcomer trying to start over in your new home. However, the townsfolk are acting odd, and it feels like someone's watching you.

The Shopping List features puzzles that you need to solve as you interact with the locals. By doing so, you can rediscover your past and make yourself at home in your new residence. However, as with other indie games, the entire run is quite short, with little to no replay value.

All in all, A Dark Nightmare is a good title to pick up if you are into indie horror games. The game has a full-featured and mystery-rich storyline filled with puzzles. It also boasts intense characters, which makes the plot more gripping. The gameplay can be a bit difficult, especially the psychological part, and its runtime is a bit short.

From Devolver Digital, the publisher for other great Mac games such as Cult of The Lamb and Inscryption comes CARRION. A reverse-horror game where you get to be the monster hunting down the scientists instead.

But it gets worse: You are completely incapable of combat. With no weapons at your disposal, you will have to be quick on your feet to stay alive. Needless to say, Outlast is a must if you enjoy horror games.

LIDAR.EXE is a free horror game from indie developer KenForest. In this game, players will have a chilling adventure inside a gloomy place. However, where you are is completely dark, and you only have a lidar scanner to help you navigate.

LIDAR.EXE is based on the indie horror game Scanner Sombre and its Lidar add-on. It also shares the same gameplay as the latter, using the scanner to unveil clues and secrets. However, unlike Scanner Sombre, the art style of this one is almost black and white, with only the objects, text clues, and the scanner colored red.

I'm admitting that I have a laptop computer (wish I had desktop) and even if I change mouse sensitivity, I still can't do that part of closing doors. And my game was a bit laggy but I still managed so I won't talk about that as much. Finally, I enjoyed this game and I hope you make more horror games soon (if you decide to).

Poppy Playtime is an indie horror set inside an abandoned toy factory. Players must navigate their surroundings while avoiding the terrifying toys that lurk within. Expect heart-racing chases, nightmarish monster toys, and unsettling music throughout.

Poppy Playtime doesn't play around with the horror, and in fact, there are moments in chapter 1 that surpass some of the bigger named games in the genre. A significant reason why comes from non-telegraphed moments, where the toy (in this case Huggy Wuggy) would appear and begin chasing you.

Suppose you've gotten used to large open spaces, empty corridors, or music-cued entrances from previous horror games. In that case, Poppy Playtime will undoubtedly catch you off guard and induce real panic as you scramble to find the nearest safe space or exit.

Mechanics are rarely a focal point when playing horror games. You may find yourself needing to use a camera to blind an enemy, a flashlight to search for items, or make use of various hiding spots to keep yourself safe. Poppy Playtime takes on the puzzle adventure horror in a different direction by introducing a two-arm mechanic.

Poppy Playtime is currently only available as a first chapter, with other chapters coming further along in its development lifespan. While unusual for a horror game, it indicates that the team at MOB games wants to develop something that has depth rather than a quick-fire horror experience.

With more than six million apps available to download, the competition is fierce, which is why ASO is so important for indie games, especially during those early days. Your game will not always appear in the app store, either. The other six million apps (and counting) all want their time in the spotlight, so the time that you do have needs to count.

Who they are: An indie game video producer, countdowns curator, and reviewer. This channel has weekly and monthly roundups of the best indie games. It also offers hidden gems and recommendations.

Though many AAA companies in the video game industry have rejected horror games as a niche market, the indie community has really embraced the genre in recent years. Here are five of the best free-to-play horror titles available for Mac and PC.

Notes of Obsession is one of the better free walking simulators available. It is clear the developers put lots of thought into design choices and overall tone, elevating it beyond similar games. Fans of the genre will enjoy their brief time with the game.

The free version has all the core features but is limited to 25 events, two object layers, two simultaneous special effects, one web font, no multiplayer functionality, can only export to HTML5, and doesn't include permission to sell your games.

Like Unity, the Godot engine supports the creation of both 2D and 3D games. The 2D aspect of this free game maker was carefully designed from the start, which means better performance, fewer bugs, and a cleaner overall workflow.

Godot is the only game-making software on this list that's actually free through and through. Because it's licensed under the MIT License, you can use it however you want and sell the games you make without any restrictions. 2ff7e9595c
